What goes down must come up

I know it's been a while since I posted.  The main reason for that is because, reading back on my posts, they were all angry or sad and that was depressing.  So I've kinda held out until I had some better news to post.

Things are finally looking up!  Other than the home situation, everything else seems to be resolving itself.  I've FINALLY gotten the full-time position I was offered 3 months ago.  This next Saturday is my last scheduled Saturday!  *happy dance*

So....I can finally start having a social life!  That being said...I have somehow managed to snag the most amazing man that I've ever met in my 28 years of living.  (Besides my son, of course.) How, I have no clue, but I did and I couldn't be happier! I'm not going to go into too much detail here, because things are still getting "started" so to speak, but I've been so happy and smiling all week...and it doesn't look like it's ending any time soon!  (Please don't mention anything on Facebook...I don't want my parents and in-laws to know yet.)

My son's sperm donor is finally home from wherever the hell he was.  I know this because his mother felt the need to text me the minute he touched down in Fayetteville.  Yay.  Of course, this means that I can get started on the divorce proceedings now.  Now that I finally have a full-time position, I can get medical benefits, which is one thing I was holding out for.  I'm in the process of getting everything taken care of before I end things and fully stand on my own.  Thankfully, my man knows and understands everything and is being extremely patient while it happens.

I really have been blessed. Thank you God!

The weight of the world...is just too much.

I'm not Atlas. I'm not a Titan equipped to hold up the world. I'm just a simple girl from all over that's just trying to survive in this screwed up world we live in.  But it sure feels like I'm training to be his replacement.

I mean, everywhere I turn, it's SOMETHING.  The main issue is this house. I desperately need to get out of here before I lose what little sanity I have left. I can't continue to live in this house of madness, contradictions, and lunacy.

It seems like everything I bring into this house gets destroyed.  My couch, two strollers, my vacuum, my dog, myself. And I've had to give up everything...working on the dog now and being harassed mercilessly about it as well.  I'm tired of constantly giving!

I'm tired of having to put on a front because I'm tired of being ignored. I'm standing in the middle of a giant battlefield and everywhere I turn, bullets are whizzing by my head, threatening to find a permanent home in my body. School, romance, work, home, life....it's all in turmoil and at war with me.

And what makes it the absolute worst is that I'm completely isolated.
I seriously have no friends. I take that back. I have one friend that actually cares enough to check in on me and see how I'm doing. My family is so self-absorbed that they could care less. I know I'm not THAT good of an actress to hide it...I'm not even trying to. And still, no one cares.

I just want to be free...I don't care how.  Yes, I'm completely broken and not even interested in picking up the pieces. No one wants them, so why bother?

My son is all I have left...and the ONLY thing worth living for. But if I don't get him out of here soon, I may lose him to the madness as well....

Enough!

So, after 3 years and a lot of being bullied and pushed around, I've FINALLY reached my limit.

I DESERVE happiness. And where everyone I know got the idea that I should be miserable is beyond me, but honestly, I'm tired of it.  I'm tired of every time I start to feel happy, someone feels the need to bust me down. I'm a good woman. I don't deserve any of the crap I've endured for the past 3 years, but I've taken it. And gracefully, I might add.

I'm not going to continue to be tied to a boy that can't even acknowledge his own biological child but will gladly acknowledge a kid that's not even his.  The "benefits" aren't worth it. This feeling of spinning my wheels isn't worth it. I want to love and be loved and I can't do that while still legally married. So, despite my mother's objections, I am ending this farce of a marriage ASAP. I don't want anything from him except for my car (it's still in his name) and child support. Let me keep full custody and I won't ever bother him. He can be free to destroy his life an I'll be free to finally find mine.

My job is a joke. While I love what I do, my supervisor is a complete and total waste of space. And since corporate seems to embrace this ideal, I've taken my "complaints" to another level. Now, I am simply just gathering evidence and when the time is right, I'll do what's needed. Until then, I just grin and bear it. I'm like a ninja-strike when you're most vulnerable.

I'm also looking to give Roscoe away. It's tearing me up, but I look at my sweet puppy and I realize that being stuck in my mom's backyard isn't the life for him. He was making improvement, but now he seems to have plateaued. He's still not where she will let him in the house and he's not meant to be an outside dog. He's a people dog...a family dog. So I'm researching right now to see if I can find a reputable place that cares for special needs animals.

Other than that, still looking to fix my room (or move out) and...yeah. Nothing in this house is going to change. My family seems to thrive on dysfunction. Not me, I want out. I want to live.

Set me free!

I'm finally at the point where I don't want to be married to my husband anymore.  We've been separated for almost 3 years and while I know there's no hope for reconciliation (and I honestly don't want it anymore) there were SOME benefits to continuing to be an army wife.

First and foremost, medical benefits.  While still being married, I have Tricare. I have dental too, but that's not near as important as the "free" medical.  But, I'm healthy enough that if I go and "stock up" on all the medications I need, I'll be ok until I can manage to get a full-time position at work (which I'm now told MAY be in August...we'll see.) or by stroke of luck, I rush into another marriage to a military man.  Keola will be taken care of no matter what, as he's an Army dependent, so that's certainly not a concern...this is merely selfish.

Secondly, base access.  Yes, I love me some marines and it certainly helps being able to get on base and scope them out.  I can do that at work and my status as a Navy contractor can get me onto base.  However, it doesn't allow me access to shop at the commissary or the PX...which I find I've been doing a lot more lately.  It's nice being able to go to not only Lejeune, but New River and any other base too.  A contractor's pass is base specific...so I'd be stuck  to only Lejeune.  Still not bad.

Finally, we have an agreement where I pay the car payment for my car and he pays the insurance.  It's better for him to keep me on his insurance because I have a pristine driving record and despite his now being over 25, his isn't.  So having me on there actually lowers his rates.  But, I can easily pick up insurance on my car and finish paying off the car (3 grand left....ugh.)

I just want to be free.  I want to be able to date and find love without having this albatross hang over me.  I mean, most of the men I meet are marines (YUM!) and while I'm completely upfront about my marital status, it's a big hindrance on anything moving forward.  I mean, as much as I want to eventually remarry and have my own family, I can't do that while I'm currently married.  Not only that, but the commands here on this base are BIG on adultery. And they can be charged with adultery if they're with me since I am legally still married.  They don't care that I haven't spoken to my husband in 2 years or that we're not together...LEGALLY, I am still his wife.

So, I've decided that despite my mother's trying to talk me out of it, I'm going to go ahead and file for divorce and end this farce that has been the last 7 years of my life.  (Together 7, married 5.) I deserve better and you know what?  I'm going to get it....and soon. ;)

Bittersweet Memories.

Well, today is my 5th wedding anniversary.  And yeah, even though the marriage is dead and has been for three years, it's still going to be a bit of a rough day for me.  Good thing I have to work, huh?

The reason it's hitting me hard is that this was our "special" year.  We had planned to have our church ceremony this year, with our son standing at the altar with us, celebrating our love.  Well, you see how that turned out.  I'm not sad because of what I've lost...I'm sad for what was supposed to be.  Perhaps if we were actually divorced, today wouldn't bother me, but I think because we're still married, it does.  More than likely because this "marriage" is what's keeping me from moving on with anyone else like I want....and I can't even celebrate the damn thing.

Then, to top it off, my daily Bible reading for today was this:

So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. [Colossians 1:9]

Message received, God.

Beware the fury of a patient woman....

If you've kept up with my blog, you'd remember the last entry was all about the injustice that I was put through when I had attempted to call out since I had no babysitter.  Well, I ended up having to go into work and make alternate arrangements for my son.  It also prompted me, after talking with my on-site supervisor, to send an email to my corporate supervisor in which I let it all out.

For your enjoyment, I am quoting the email because I must admit it was one of the best pieces I've ever written.  I also forwarded a copy to our department supervisor (outside of my chain of command) and he absolutely LOVED it.  Names have been omitted to preserve their integrity.

Ms. ***,

I am coming to you with a few concerns and questions regarding one incident that took place today, Saturday May 28, and a few others that have been ongoing for a while now.

Today, I had attempted to call out due to a family emergency. I contacted my supervisor, ***** at 10:40am to tell her that I was unable to come in to work tonight. The response I received was that I needed to find someone to cover my shift and that she could not work because she had already worked 40 hours this week and wasn't going to be approved for overtime. If I could not find someone to cover my shift, I was required to come in and work, even though I had stated I was unable to come in to work. I was also informed that this was company policy and that every clerk is on our recall roster. However, I have not actually seen this policy and there is no policy manual to be found anywhere in the department. Also, not all of us clerks are on the recall roster (I myself am not listed on it), nor did I have access to this roster at home. She also told me that she had plans with her children this weekend and if I was dissatisfied with this response, I could contact our site supervisor, ****.

However, when I asked for Ms. ***'s telephone number, it was not provided. I had to obtain this information from another employee. I was then informed by Ms. **** that she had already spoken with Ms. **** and that Ms. **** echoed Ms. *****'s previous statement about me having to find my own coverage and that you would be calling me today regarding this as well. I called Ms. **** myself and received an entirely different response. I was informed that I needed to call you regarding this issue and the scheduling problem I have been having as well. She then gave me your number and I called and left a voicemail. Since I received no response, I was under the impression that I had no choice but to come to work tonight, despite previously stating that I was unable to come in. I do know, that when any other staff member has had to call out, they've just contacted our lead supervisor, who then coordinates coverage from there. I am curious to know why I was given a different protocol to adhere to, as well as being made to feel that I was not "allowed" to call out because we had no one able to cover. I cannot plan when things come up, and certainly cannot plan them around the availability of other clerks in the department.

Another problem I have been having lately is with my scheduling. I was originally asked, back in December, if I would be is that was originally asked to cover a maternity leave starting January 20th and continuing for 6 weeks until the other employee was cleared to come back to full-time status. However, after about two weeks, this same employee was covering a few shifts in the department. A few weeks later, she was back to full-time status, but covering a day shift position. I was asked, in February, if I minded continuing to cover this shift for one more month and I agreed. I continued covering this shift into March, and in April, was continued to be scheduled for this shift. I promptly e-mailed Ms. ***** and told her that due to child care arrangements, I was not able to continue covering this shift anymore. The schedule for May and June has come out and I'm still being scheduled for a shift I previously stated I wasn't available to cover anymore. When reminded, it seems that Ms. ***** has ignored my announcement of availability.

I also had asked Ms. ***** on January 15th that if a full-time position became available, I would like to be considered for it. Two days later, I received a text message from her asking if I was interested in working full-time nights. When asked which shift, I was told Wednesday, Thursday, Friday nights. I agreed. She then told me that I was going to be starting this shift in March. As stated before, I was asked in February if I would continue to cover the maternity leave and would then start this shift in April. I agreed, and made my childcare arrangements based on this. It is now coming up into June and this offer seems to have been retracted. After a long game of email tag, I have been given several different reasons as to why I was not able to start working this position and that I was "ok" because I could still cover the Thursday, Friday, Saturday shift. (Even though, as stated before, I am no longer able to continue covering this shift due to childcare.) My conflict with this is that after being told that I would start this shift in April, I have put my son in full-time daycare. With the shift I am being forced to cover, I not only have to put my child in daycare, but I also have to pay for a babysitter on the weekends and I simply cannot afford it. On more than one occasion, I have made this known to Ms. *****, and I have attached the email conversations that have taken place between myself and she regarding this issue as well. My understanding is that I currently stand at a part-time status, not held to any set hours or shifts.

I'm sure you are aware of the ongoing problems that we've been experiencing with one of our clerks. I have written to my lead supervisor on numerous occasions regarding the negligence to comply with proper ER procedures by said clerk and how the other two of us on shift are required to pick up the slack because if we don't, the ER and patients will suffer. We have certain types of documentation we must follow regarding suicidal ideation patients in which we must keep a log daily of how many we see and on Friday nights, this log isn't being maintained by the clerk in the back, as we were told was protocol. Charts are not being checked out in a timely manner on Fridays, so that the clerk up front maintaining our log book can do the daily count that we are required to do. When either of us go back to see why these charts are taking so long to be dispositioned, we find the clerk playing on Facebook or her cellular phone. It is only on Friday nights that this is a continuous problem. Also, charts are not being checked out correctly with proper times and disposition codes on Fridays and we clerks up front are feel obligated to either correct the problem or bring it back to the clerk in the back to correct.

I have previously, in December, filed a complaint with my lead regarding this same clerk smoking in non-designated areas and leaving the front desk unattended. (The other clerk was using the facilities.) Nothing ever came of that issue, until two months later, when Ms. ***** decided to print out my email and hand it to the clerk in question without taking my name off of the email or even giving me warning that she was doing this. Now, I stand by every word I stated in that email (also attached), but I feel as if my name should have been removed, as that action created a great amount of tension in the workplace. I had a meeting with Ms. ***** and our department head Mr. ******** about this issue and while it was never actually addressed, the situation seemed to have resolved itself at that time. However, despite this and now the current events that have transpired, I do not feel as if I can voice my concerns to my supervisor and have them adequately addressed. I have told this to Ms. ***** following that meeting, and I continue to feel this way because of the lack of response I receive regarding any correspondence between us.

I am not trying to cause problems, as I truly do love working here in the ER at Camp Lejeune. This is where my family comes to receive medical treatment and where I myself come. My entire family is employed here at this hospital; we plan on working here until we are no longer able. I just feel that we all should be held to the same standards and be made aware of proper policies and procedures regarding the day-to-day operations of the department. I have never, in any of the other places I have worked at, been required to find my own coverage when calling out, nor being forced to come in and work despite the call out. If this is proper procedure, I will be sure to follow it if I ever have to call out again in the future.

Thank you for your time and patience.

Respectfully, Desiree Cox

Now, the great thing about this email is not only does it tell about all of the shenanigans that are going on and have been allowed to go on in our department, but it's given our department supervisor ammunition to finally do something about it since our supervisor won't.  This means that my company stands in danger of losing it's contract with the Emergency Room...big big money.

I am completely covered in that I have provided all email documentation to support any and all claims that I have made, as well as having been the first to send this, I am covered by federal law from any sort of retaliatory attempts. I have not only filed legitimate complaints, but also laid the groundwork for a discrimination suit if need be. I hate to have to resort to that, but it is honestly how I feel I am treated now.

Case in point, just after all of this happened on Saturday, I wake up Tuesday morning to a text from my supervisor asking me if I could cover for another clerk that night and I'd have Thursday off.  But I am required to find my own coverage if I have something come up? I don't think so.  I said no based merely on principle, and not only that, but knowing that the weekends are where I'm having trouble with finding a sitter, you offer me THURSDAY off? Good gravy, this woman is beyond comprehension. I do feel bad, and had that actual employee contacted me, I would have switched, but I will not allow myself to be treated differently because I'm a good worker.

Apparently, hard work DOES go punished...

The newest drama with my job: I had to call out sick today because I have no babysitter for my son.  Well, someone made an assumption that I was going to call out based off of a joke made by my other co-worker and "alerted" my boss.  So, at 11, when I texted her to tell her I couldn't work, she tells me that I'm required to find my own coverage. Never, in ANY of the facilities that I've worked at, have I been required to find my own coverage when I've called out sick.

She then tells me, "Well, you knew you were going to call out, so it is your responsibility to find coverage.  I can't work because I have overtime and the other PRNs are working tomorrow. You will have to work." Um...no I don't.  I told you TWO MONTHS AGO that I couldn't work this shift anymore and you've ignored me and continued to schedule me for it! When my mom told me last night that they couldn't watch my son and I needed to find a sitter, my only option was to call out sick because everyone that I trust that I could ask is busy. (One of the girls in our hula group is having a graduation party tonight and they're all dancing.) I can't leave my two year old with just anyone, nor can I leave him alone!

So, there's only one employee that overheard the joking comment (My co-worker was joking that she might call out today because she was tired and when she left this morning said that she'd see me next week...) and so that narrows it down as to who could have "snitched" on me.  The only thing stopping me from going in and punching the woman in the face is the fact that I do love my job (most days) and don't want charges filed against me.

So, after calling the on-site supervisor and letting it ALL spill out, I am waiting for a call back from my corporate supervisor. It has been two months that I've been fighting with this schedule and six months that I've been fighting about the worthless co-worker that I have.  I'm tired of sending e-mails to my lead supervisor and them going nowhere.  I'm tired of having to do twice as much work as everyone else because I actually CARE about how the unit works and everyone else is just taking up space and collecting a paycheck.

I have bent over backwards for my supervisor.  I've come in on a moment's notice and worked 12 hour night shifts, I've come in and covered shifts when people had to be sent home, I've picked up the slack where she won't regarding the other employee because if not, the unit suffers and I'd get reprimanded anyway.  And this is how I'm rewarded? As it stands, I'll probably have to go in to work and leave my son with someone I don't trust, or have my parents take him and cause all kinds of tension in the house...again.  As much as I love this job, it isn't worth this.

I plan on letting it all out when I talk to my corporate supervisor.  I plan on letting her know about the full-time position I was offered and had taken away.  I plan on letting her know about people playing on Facebook when they're not supposed to. I plan on letting her know just how lazy some people are and how many breaks they take and how the rest of us get shafted because we don't smoke. My supervisor has let our ER go to crap and I'm tired of it.  That's MY ER.  It's where I go for emergency treatment.  Where my family goes, where my son goes for treatment.  I won't accept anything but the best for them and I give nothing less than my best.  Why can't everyone else?

I'll update more once I have some resolution.
